Obverse: Old Abe sitting on cannon. Civil War symbol. Old Abe was mascot for Co. “C”, Eight Wisconsin Regiment ( The Eau Claire Eagles). Eagle donated by Daniel McCann. Carried in over 30 battles, gained notoriety amongst Union and Confederate troops. Old Abe was freed during the battle of Corinth and the Confederate troops tried to shoot him down with no success. In 1864 Old Abe was presented to the State of Wisconsin, became a national celeb. Oh and the other side of the token is worn, only circle of stars.
