This is a five star and ball-tipped "Deputy Sheriff" badge of nickel-silver and about 2 in. across. The badge shows wear to the black enamel lettering. The back-pin is strong and marked on the back "Sachs-Lawlor M & M Co. Denver, Colo." with a partial over-strike "Sachs". There is a slight but noticeable dimple on the left corner point where a metal strike has been made. This dimple is barely noticeable from the front of the badge. This could be a metal test point or a craftsman's mark. This same badge is shown in Frank Latham's book "Police Badges" p. 100 and also appears in internet research. Condition is very good. Ca. 1880-1890's.
