Two watermarks: No. 2 and an image of a horse. Chips and toning to outer edges. Measures 8" x 10" (Cox: LAW-545-S-50 b uu) The Lawrenceburgh & Indianapolis Rail-road was the first railroad built west of the Alleghany Mountains. It extended 1 1/14 miles from the southeast edge of Shelbyville to Lewis Creek. The track, built of oak rails, was completed in 1834 and held a parade offering 25 cent rides on July 4th.
