This is an early GPS system, otherwise known as a compass. This is one from 1880 and was used by a mining engineer. It is about 2.5 inches wide and still works. It comes in an engraved (1880) case and still has its original wood case. This are from the Shirley Bovis, private Tombstone cowboy museum collection.
