"J.J. G." on one of the two bags here, with J.J. on the other side, possibly the initials of the miner, John Judson -1879, one with 1.5" blue stripe across the middle (probable ore code for the mill), and the other with the blue stripe up the side. I believe these lines to be a code of sorts. we see red and blue, with lines at the center horizontally, as well as lines vertical. As a professional mining man, I can attest to the fact that we code things for ease in sorting or recognition for specific purposes. It was common practice for mines to pay miners by the ton, hence his initials on the bag.-fh These two bags differ slightly in size with no apparent mine markings. About 13 x 24", coarse weave.
