An interesting document that is a great example of the problem of title that occurred in gold mining camps. Dateline Dayton, Nevada, Spet. 25, 1865. The deputy recorder is informing J. Sprostou (?) that his deed was "properly stamped and recorded but not acknowledged before a proper office" given that "a notary public has no authority legally out of the state in which he is appointed." Given this was issued in Dayton, this could have been for a Comstock mining claim. 7.5" x 8"
