1.) The earliest view of this group is of the Bank of Arizona, Rothrock 102, from 1875-1878 as shown in Rowe on page 285. This is a choice, high-quality, high contrast, excellent focus view of the bank and two adjacent buildings and business occupied by CC Bean, Bowen, Knowles, and the Capital (Saloon). The photo has some damage along the top left edge, otherwise excellent.
2.) Plaza Stable on light lavender cardstock, labeled on the back in manuscript Eastside Plaza "A.E." we were unable to ascertain this photographer c1880. 3.) Capital of Arizona by Standard series. This piece shows yet a 3rd side of the plaza, c1890, and shows a business Kelly & Stevens at center. Prescott sits at the center of a major gold region at relatively high altitude, and today it is an important Arizona retirement area. Prescott became the capital of the Arizona Territory in 1864. The capital moved to Tucson in 1867, then back to Prescott in 1877. Phoenix was made the capital in 1899. Arizona joined the Union as the 48th state in 1912.
