Roughly 30 to 40 pieces. Includes five 20" straight wires marked 'U. S. Tel., CPR' (Central Pacific Railroad).. This note comes from the original desert rat who found these. Also one wire marked 'Fort Churchill, Carson Sink Station, Hard Rubber Insulators.' The hard rubber insulators were the earliest use. THis is a very thin wire and must have been used with these insulators. One wire noted 'Gold Canyon near new power line.' Most are straight roughly 20". Some are half rounds that would have been used to hold an insulator in place. MAYBE the most interesting pieces are the three sets of heavy wires that are square on one end and round on the other. When the United States Military decided they needed their own transcontinental telegraph, they used the existing civilian telephone poles and attached their pole by wire (without digging a hole). These are the wires that held the two poles together. They have been cut to separate the poles. State: Nevada City: HWAC#: 49068 Date:
