Signed by president William H. Sears and secretary Fisher. Not cancelled. Black border and print. Fancy logo with mine vignette incorporated into the title (miner and cart). Lith. Britton & Rey, SF. Pinholes, folds, light wear. 4 x 8.75" The Columbus Mining District was Candelaria. According to an article in the Oakland Tribune (Jan. 9th, 1880), a dispute over this company's payroll resulted in one miner (Mike Owens) fatally shooting another (P.L. Traver). Traver had been given the payroll in coin but wanted to retain the coin for boarding for the miners and instead tried to pay them with checks. The miners were not happy and Owens shot Traver.
