A great group of historic documents from Eastern Air Lines. 1) Typed letter signed by Eddie Rickenbacker, the famous flying ace, as head of Eastern Air Lines dated 1949, on Eastern Air Lines letterhead. Great content, as Rickenbacker writes Marcie Lieberman, the mayor of Miami Beach, Florida, detailing Eastern's "all out" campaign to promote Florida as an all-year vacationland. Rickenbacker notes that their publicity story, "Florida As We Know It" had been distributed to 2,000 editors of house organs throughout the country. Eastern Air Lines had a near monopoly on air travel between New York and Florida from the 1930's to the 1950's and had it's headquarters at Miami International Airport when it dissolved in 1991. This letter has great historical content. Nice clear signature of Eddie Rickenbacker in blue pen. VF. Also comes with one of his business cards from Eastern listing him as Chairman of the Board. 2) Stock certificate from Eastern Air Lines, Inc., issued in 1938 and with facsimile signature of Rickenbacker as president. This was a temporary certificate issued in lieu of the upcoming engraved certificate to come. Hole cancels. VF. 3) Very rare railroad timetable from Eastern Air Transport, Inc., the predecessor to Eastern Air Lines dated 1934. Inside there is a photo of the new Curtis Condor, "The Quiet Airliner", built to the company's specifications by Curtis Wright. The timetable lists the Passenger, Mail and Express Schedule effective Jan 22, 1934 along with a fare chart. A map of the Eastern Air Transport System is on the back. 4) Two 8 1/2 x 11" black and white photos of Rickenbacker, one showing him boarding and Eastern plane and the other as the famous "flying ace". VF.
