Lot of 2 different. 1) No. L327, issued in 1939 for 45 shares to Mary Ascher. Red border, vignette of allegorical man with airfield in the background. Punch cancelled. 2) No. C790, issued for 100 shares in 1939 to Hemphill, Noyes & Co. Blue border, same vignette as other. Punch cancelled. Both have autopen signature of Eddie Rickenbacker as president and secretary Armstrong. Folds, staple holes. 8.25 x 11.25" Operated 1926-1991, headquartered at Miami. One of the "Big Four" domestic airlines created by the Spoils Conferences of 1930. It had a near monopoly in air travel between New York and Florida from the 1930s until the 1950s. Rickenbacker was an American fighter ace in World War I and Medal of Honor recipient. With 26 aerial victories, he was America's most successful fighter ace in the war. In 1920, he started the Rickenbacker Motor Company. In 1927, he bought the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He started managing Eastern in 1935 and bought the company in 1938. On February 26, 1941, he was a passenger on a Douglas DC-3 airliner Eastern Air Lines flight that crashed just outside Atlanta, Georgia and suffered grave injuries. Ken Prag Collection
