Includes Volume 7. No. 1, May 18, 1895 - No. 52, May 9, 1896. J.B King, publisher, measures 18 x 24 1/2". Eastonville began in 1872 as the town of Easton. There is a discrepancy in the date of the arrival of the post office to the town (1872-1880). Not a mining town, it was initially called the "Potato Capital of the World." Due to the arrival of the Denver and New Orleans Railroad line, the town was moved 6 miles to the northeast in 1883. The name of the town was changed to Eastonville on May 27, 1884. The population grew to a high of about 300; which included 3 general stores, 3 churches, 3 hotels , a bakery, and a livery stable. The population had been dropping in the 1930's, and was accelerated after the Colorado and Southern Railroad tracks washed out. The area previously occupied by the town is now part of the urban area of Colorado Springs. City: Eastonville State: Colorado Date: c1895 HWAC# 21659
