Gold Hill District, Nevada Territory (printed under title). Incorporated April 22, 1863. # 218, issued for five shares to P. Caduc on Aug. 26th, 1863 in San Francisco. Signed by president Fred. L. Castle and secretary N. Shiverick. Not cancelled. Black border and print, vignette of women sitting on hill with a mine in the distance. Lith. Britton & Co., San Francisco. 25 cent US revenue adhesive stamp attached on the left border. Folds, creases, light toning. The Echo mine was actually in the Devil's Gate district. One of the mines Mark Twain (Samuel L. Clemens) invested in. It was still active as late as 1878, but there seemed to be no real production. Secretary Shiverick was in the Comstock area when it was still part of the Utah Territory. He had a mercantile store in Carson City. Notes on the company and copy of Daily Alta California showing Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain) was an investor. Also a biography of Shiverick
