Inc. in New Jersey. Certificate no. 31, issued to Thomas A. Edison for 1,000 shares on August 19th, 1899. Signed by the vice president and treasurer, punch cancelled. Signed by Thomas Edison on the reverse and on the attached stub! The signature on the reverse is a bit faded, but the signature on the stub is very bold. Brown border, black print, and vignette of Edison. ABN. Four revenue stamps. Folds, some toning. 8 x 15.5" (with stub). This company was formed by Edison in New Village, New Jersey in 1899. It was born out of Edison's ore-milling technology which he unsuccessfully tried to make profitable. However, the process produced fine waste sand that made harder and durable cement. Edison decided to enter the cement business instead. The company supplied the cement for the Yankee Stadium constructed in 1922. The company did not last the Great Depression. Thomas Edison (1847-1931) is often thought of as "America's greatest inventor." He developed many devices related to electric power generation, mass communication, sound recording, and motion pictures, including the phonograph, the motion picture camera, and early versions of the electric light bulb.
