An entire box of business items from the El Dorado Brewing Co. of Stockton. Thousands of labels for their Valley Brew Pale, several receipt books, and two ledgers with pencil entries from the early 20th century.

The original brewery was founded in 1853 by brothers Peter and Daniel Rothenbush, and produced a product known as "Steam Beer" and called "El Dorado Beer. An article in the Stockton Record in 1953, (commemorating the 100th anniversary of the El Dorado Brewing Co.) mentioned other western breweries began to copy the "Steam Beer" of El Dorado. The original brewery building between American and Stanislaus and Park and Oak Streets was partially destroyed by a fire in 1877. It was soon bebuilt of brick and survived for another 50 years.

Around the turn of the 20th century, bottling methods changed and "Crown tops" were the design. Valley Brew became the most prestigious product of the brewery, capturing awards at the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair and the 1905 California State Fair, the Panama-Pacific Exposition and in Eureka, California in 1915.

During the prohibition era the brewery was the first in the industry to develop a product with less than 0.5% alcohol, so survived making "near beer" called Special Valley. (It was awarded 12 gold medals!)
