The Kennecott Bingham Canyon west of Salt Lake City, Utah, boasts about being the deepest open pit copper mine in the world, and here are three slabs of 99.999% pure, electrolytically refined copper mined from that locale. These are 1/4-inch thick slabs cut from a 4 x 4-inch "wire bar" -- a long casting of refined copper which is then heated, rolled, and drawn into fine copper wire. The high purity is required to allow the ductile metal to be drawn into very fine wire without breaking. Slabs weigh 2.8, 2.0, and 1.8 pounds.
