Not cancelled. Hydraulic mining vignette. Different. Towne & Bacon printers. No edge, corner, pinhole or discoloration issues. Frank Cooper was one of the original Commissioners charged with designating the election precincts in newly-formed Alpine Co. (1864 "Alpine County Bill"; see 1864 Aug 11; see also Board of Supervisors Minutes, Book "A", page 1; and see text of “Alpine County Bill” printed in 1864 July 30 MG). Thompson was born September 20, 1822 in Montville, Maine. At 6'4" tall he was a tall California Pioneer, He settled on Whit's Bar on the Mokelumne, with a house on Prospect Hill, and won two terms as a justice of the peace (without being a lawyer originally) and so was known as "Judge" Thompson moved his family moved to Alpine County in June, 1864 and his investments included an interest in the Blue Goose mine. He also had an investment in "a quarry which provided stone for building the town jail". He built a house; practiced law; served as a notary; and acted as secretary for several mining companies. Thompson commented that none other than Snowshoe Thompson gave him snowshoeing (skiing) lessons.
