Extremely rare 3rd charter blue seal date back. This is a unique note featuring the names of the founding president Oscar J. Smith and first cashier R.H. Mallett. It is the lowest serial number extant on any large size Elko note (#92). The only known blue seal note that is pen signed by the founders (not stamped). A solid note with strong over printed signatures of R.H. Mallett, cashier and Oscar J. Smith, president. One of three $10 Date Backs reported on this intuition. Condition: Very Good. Serial Number: 92 The First National Bank Of Elko History: On May 16, 1906 The First National Bank OF Elko was chartered by the Comptroller of the Currency (Treasury Department) with a starting capital of $100,000. The bank was sold in 1936 to First National Bank Of Nevada, Reno. The building is still to this date being used as a bank. OSCAR J. SMITH - From cowboy to bank president and one of the foremost men in the state is the record of Oscar J. Smith; a record that he modestly says is nothing. There is in Nevada probably no man who knows more of mining, stock raising and banking conditions than Mr. Smith. Mr. Smith started his banking career when he was elected president of the Eureka County Bank. From 1905 Mr. Smith has devoted considerable of his attention to banking, having been chosen president of the First National Bank of Elko in 1905, and in the same year president of the Southern Nevada Banking Company, now the First National Bank of Rhyolite. In 1906 he was elected vice-president of the Bank of Manhattan. [Who's Who In Nevada, Brief Sketches of Men Who are Making History in the Sagebrush State.]
