With just four $10s reported, this is the finest of the 4,164 issued. Facsimile signatures of N. H. Chapin, cashier and Osmond George Bates, president. Condition: Very Fine. Serial Number: 407. With a capital of $25,000 The Ely National Bank opened its doors in February of 1909. The first notes the back received from the Comptroller of the Currency was in March of 1909. A total issue of $421,670 worth of notes were issued and on August 1, 1935 just $43,050 was outstanding. From this amount, one large size note is recorded and thirty small size notes are recorded. The banks last president, Osmond George Bates entered the banking business in 1920 when he purchased the controlling interest in the Ely National Bank. In 1925 he purchased the The Copper National Bank of East Ely and in 1926 he purchased the controlling interest in the McGill National Bank. Ely Nevada HWAC# 32221
