Beryl is an aluminosilicate mineral known as Aquamarine when it is a pale blue color and Emerald when it is a deep green color (caused by the presence of chromium or vanadium). Corundum is an aluminum oxide the appears as Ruby when chromium is present and Sapphire with other elements present. This lot contains 24.13 ct of rough Emerald crystals with their characteristic hexagonal cross-section. These are not clear gem quality but good for polishing into cabochons. Two small (0.5 and 0.55 ct) Emerald cabochons appear in this lot. There are a pair of small plastic boxes containing two square-cut Aquamarine gems (2.73 and 1.17 ct) and a 0.98 ct round Aquamarine gem. Finally there are two ruby "star" corundum cabochons (6.63 ct and 5.88 ct) that show the internal reflections caused the presence of oriented crystals of Rutile as inclusions in the corundum. This also occurs in star sapphires.
