Equity Funding was a Los Angeles based mutual fund company that marketed funds and insurance products to individuals in the 1960's and 70's. An ex-employee and securities analyst Ray Dirks uncovered massive fraud at the company. As many as 100 company employees had engaged in organized deception of investors, auditors, reinsurers and regulatory authorities (wikipedia). Ray Dirks was charged with insider trading and his case went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court where he was acquitted. The Equity Funding scandal was made into a movie titled, The Billion Dollar Bubble, starring James Woods. As Dirk's pursued his investigation of the company, the stock price fell from $26 to $15 in a two week period. The NYSE then halted trading in the stock and it never traded again. The company went into receivership (wikipedia). The bond was issued in 1971 with a 20 year maturity. Punch hole cxls and tiny chip missing in left border near the bottom.
