Two original etchings of Rome: 1) Pantheon d'Agrippa by Giovanni Battista Piranesi (Italian, Mogliano Veneto 1720–1778 Rome). Etching, 1741-1748 from Veduta di Roma (Views of Rome), 1756-65. Some water damage, damage top edge, repaired tear on right side of print into image. Tears have been repaired with linen tape. Etching, 18.5" x 27" paper, 23" x 33". 2 ) Veduta del Tempio di Bacco. Between 1748 and 1774 he created a long series of Vedute of the city of Rome, which established his fame. In 1767 he was proclaimed a knight of the Golden Spur, which enabled him henceforth to sign himself "Cav[aliere] Piranesi". This work was likely created after 1758 and prior to 1767.
