This is the printed eulogy for banker and financier George Peabody by Robert C. Winthrop.
George Peabody (February 18, 1795 ñ November 4, 1869) was an American financier and philanthropist. He is often considered the father of modern philanthropy. Upon his death in London, Queen Victoria had him laid to rest in Westminster Abbey. In 1870, his remains were transported via Queen Victoria's flagship to America, where he was laid to rest in his hometown of Salem, Massachusetts. Missing its cover.
