Certificate NUMBER 1 issued to the president and soon to be superintendent J. B. Sears. Issued for 5 shares on February 4, 1888 in Stockton. Incorporated February 8, 1888. The stock precedes the incorporation? Signed by secretary M. D. Baker. Simple design. Printed by Leroy S. Atwood of Stockton. Some foxing otherwise very nice indeed. The Eureka Mine of Como (Palmyra Mining District) was under four different names. It was the Eureka Como from 1888 to 1899. Lots of hope associated with this company in the later years, but no indication of great production. Notes from local newspapers articles are included! J. B. Sears later became a principal owner and organizer of the Union Transportation Company, which ran steamers between San Francisco and Stockton.
