Clark and secretary T.J. Owens. Not cancelled. Large California seal vignette and small Native American portrait at bottom. 25 cent adhesive revenue at left. No printed listed--trimmed tight. Very fine. 4.75 x 9.75" Not in Filer. Other early mines in the district include the Lady Franklin, Wide West, Young Hero, Star of the West, and Buckeye No. 1. Silver Mountain was founded in 1858 by Norwegian miners who named the place Köngsberg or Konigsberg. Within a year, the town had a population of around 3,000. The Konigsberg post office was renamed Silver Mountain in 1865 and closed for good in 1883. By 1886, the mines were no longer productive and the town was abandoned. When Alpine County was formed in 1864 (from land donated by Amador, Calaveras, El Dorado, Mono and Tuolumne Counties), Silver Mountain was the county seat. This certificate dates to the Amador County designation. (Al Adams Gold Rush Memorabilia Collection) Date: Location: Amador County, California HWAC# 58456
