Ex-Civil War soldier James Cunard was in Company J, 7th regiment of California Volunteers. This is a group of documents including an application of additional bounty of $100 and a letter regarding his life insurance policy from German American Insurance in Nevada City dated 1896. There is also a three page letter to Mr. Cunard, care of the Western Hotel on K. Street in Sacramento dated 1888, in one of the hotels printed envelopes with a picture of the hotel on the back. The letter notes, "the threat" that Cunard has made regarding collecting his bounty and it's uncalled for nature.
