Lot of 5. 1) Southern Express Company, Express Forwarders. Dec. 3, 1869. Payment for freight charges from Selma. Measures 5.5" x 8.5" Folds, light soiling and a tape repair. This Georgia company was created by Adams Express Company at the beginning of the Civil War when they were worried about their properties being transferred. Henry B. Plant, the head of their southern operations, was put in charge in 1861. 2) Adams & Co's Great Eastern, Western and Southern Package Express bill of lading c.1850s in New York. Only partially filled out (for Fisher Cushing & Co.). Pin holes.5" x 8.5" 3) Unused bill of lading for the same company, c. 1860s. Pin holes. 4) Two United States Express Co. documents: an 1871 receipt for freight charges in New York, and an unused pictorial bill of lading c. 1850s. (Prag Collection)
