Number 58 on page 54 may have been caused by Kid Murray (of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid) who robbed a Globe Express Safe on the Colorado & Midland Railroad a short time before. Rule #58 says that all employees handling money or valuables must be properly armed for defense and have them ready for immediate use. My favorite is Rule Number 562. "A Messenger must keep strict watch of the movement of trains while at stations, and should an attempt be made to run off the engine and express car he will lock and throw out his safe at once and get out of the car if possible." Sounds like safes are important and messengers are an after thought! These don't appear very often as express companies kept close account of them. There is a letter from DD Mayo reminding the person receiving this is that it is not for public use! This one belonged to L. Leach. Nice condition. City: Denver State: Colorado Date: 1905 HWAC# 50966
