Extremely rare leather pommel saddlebags marked "J.P. Mason / Maker / Sacramento" in four places. Measure 15 x 8.5" Holster holds a .36 caliber percussion, Colt Model 1862 police revolver with a 4.5 inch barrel. According to newspaper articles, John Petrie Mason opened his saddlery at 91 K Street near 4th in Sacramento in May 1867, as the successor to AT Nelson. In August 1867, he was badly injured after falling off a train platform. We find mention in 1882 that he and his wife have left Sacramento to live in San Francisco. It appears he died in late 1887. One pouch is separating. Wear to leather. Please see photos for detailed condition.
