This 16 gauge side by side shotgun was made by F. v. Dreuse of Sommerda, Germany marked in gold on the center rib. It is marked S/N 16881 on the engraved buttplate and under the barrels. This shotgun was the pride and joy of the original owner as it is gold inlayed and with Damascus barrels. The barrels measure 16 ga. IC/IC 30.25 in. and are bright without pitting. The back-action locks have all original parts; the right lock has a gold inlayed hound giving chase, the left lock has a gold inlayed fox. The round action receiver has gold inlayed hares on the right side and the left side has gold inlayed pheasants. The trigger guard has a deer in gold. The receiver, fences, hammers, lock-plate, trigger guard and Lafaucheux release lever are all heavily engraved. The buttstock is relief carved to carry the engraving theme further. The forestock has a muzzle-loader wedge for attachment and is relief carved in a diamond pattern as well as a fleur pattern. The buttplate is also engraved with the serial number as well. All screws are hand engraved. The most striking detail in this gun's construction is the rain drop pattern Damascus barrels that have been high-lighted to the touch. The Damascus-scene is not only visible but noticeable to the touch on the barrels and center rib. C. 1870-1880 and does not appear to be a needle fire conversion. The right hammer does not hold at full cock, but may be a trigger adjustment. The stocks are of European walnut and show handling marks and some wear consistent with its age. In excellent condition. Overall length is 46.5 in. barrels at 30.25 in./ 77 mm with 13.5 in. LOP. This gun is an antique and no attempt has been made to fire this gun to confirm its mechanical integrity. Nor should this gun be fired without the examination by a qualified gunsmith. Any attempt to fire an antique is at the risk of the owner and not consistent with the value of the firearm.
