Red Wells Fargo Express Stamp handwritten Aurora (two train vignettes). Legal size envelope. 1862. Date and contents can be deduced by the people listed on the back. Addressed to the County Clerk, Sacramento County. Names on back include: Moultrie (Aurora 1861-63 judge), Sterns (1861-64 lawyer), DeKay (1861-62 Deputy County Clerk), Morse (1863-6? second lawyer), and Johnson (owner of the Pride of Utah Mine). Back says depositionsf / A C Morse vs. Peter Johnson, meaning this contianed legal documents and legal in 1862 meant a mining suit. There was a major legal battle in early 1862 between Pride of Utah and Wild West Mine. Aurora was known to be in Nevada by this time, but the depositions were sent to California? This case though, most probably started when Aurora was thought to be in California. Extensive research on this case and the people involved.
