Bond from the Fairplay, Mount Sheridan and Leadville Railway Co. Incorporated in 1881 in the State of Colorado. Certificate number 77. Issued in 1881 at Philadelphia. Signed by J Banta, and A. H Woodward. Printed by Breuker & Kessler, Lith. Phila. Size 15.75 by 18.25 inches. In nice condition with no major issues. Not cancelled. Nice vignette of train, with smoke n fire... rolling... Plus an eagle standing on a shield with stars, between names of the Treasurer & President. 1000 Mortgage bond. According to The Railway Age Monthly and Railway Service Magazine, Volume 2, 1881, this company proposed to build a railroad from Leadville to Fairplay to connect with the Union Pacific. Their proposed route included a tunnel through Horse Shoe Pass. The new route from Denver to Fairplay would be 115 miles, a savings of 57 miles from the current route.
