Pass for 1895 issued to WH Holabird (Fred's great grandfather) of the Chino Valley Railroad. Purple print on pink cardstock. Some paper residue on the reverse. WH Holabird would acquire distressed railroads for Southern Pacific. He was also a financier for Western resort hotels (like Hotel del Coronado). The Ferrocarril Central Mexicano, chartered in 1880 and backed heavily by U.S. capital, built the vital trunk line running from Mexico City through Leon, Aguascalientes, and Chihuahua to Ciudad Juarez/El Paso, where it linked with the Southern Pacific's American network. Completed in 1884, it became one of Porfirio Diaz's flagship modernization projects, accelerating mining and agricultural exports from the Mexican interior before being nationalized into Ferrocarriles Nacionales de México in the early 20th century.
