Here is a really strange and unusual piece of art. It is believed to be a medicine man, or a which doctor, performing a fertility ritual. This piece is carved from one tree alone, and sculpted into what you see here. The medicine man is hold a urn, which held coals or other material, and when lite sent smoke to the gods, to grant their wishes. The lid of the urn, has a Jaguar, so this tribe was a member of " The Jaquar Cult" Below the urn are two male statues , holding it up. It is 43" tall, and 20" wide at the base. Pretty good condition , except for a natural crack from the original tree, in the bottom of the urn. Wooden statue, stained black. Extremely rare, and said to be one of 2 known, with the other specimen at the Metropolitan Museum Of Art in New York. ( RH).
