Lot of 3 different. 1) H.T. Hall & C.E. Dexter, First of Exchange, Columbus, Georgia, 1856. Issued for $3,304.70. Signed Hall & Dexter. Pen cancelled. Black border and print with great allegorical vignettes of Poseidon (center) and Native American with bow (left). Printed by Rawdon, Wright, Hatch & Edson, NY. 4.25 x 8.75" 2) 1838 check from the Bank of the United States, Philadelphia. Paid out of the Girard Fund, which refers to Stephen Girard, a naturalized American citizen, philanthropist, and banker of French origin. Girard is said to have singularly saved the U.S. government from financial collapse during the War of 1812 by personally financing the war, and is known to have been the first multi-millionaire in US history. He is estimated to have been the fourth richest American of all time, based on the ratio of his fortune to contemporary GDP.
