Scarce 1902 Mourning Cover with the rare Frank of First Lady Ida Saxon McKinley. She was the wife of the 25th President of the United States William McKinley. Her husband was shot in Buffalo, New York on September 5, 1901 and died eight days later. Ida was an invalid with epilepsy and prone to seizures. This mourning cover is postmarked Canton, Ohio, Aug. 28, 1902 2-PM and franked Mrs. Ida S. McKinley. She is one of only 3 First Ladies to use Mrs. in their franking signature. She only had the franking privilege for 5 years and 4 months making her franks quite scarce and all are written without "Free". Her autographs are scare and even more so as a widow. 3.25x5" with sympathy appreciation card. [
