An autographed card signed by First Lady Sarah Childress Polk as "Mrs. James Polk." The 4.75" x 2.5" card also has written in her handwriting, "'Polk Place.' Nashville Tenn. March 6, 1891." Sarah Polk was educated far better than most women of her time and was from one of Tennessee's most prominent families. She was First Lady from 1845-49, when her husband James Knox Polk served as president of the U.S. Polk Place was their home, originally on Vine Street in Nashville, Tennessee, before it was demolished in 1901. It was originally called "Grundy Place," because it was constructed for Attorney General Felix Grundy. It was built between 1815 and 1820 in the Palladian style of architecture. President Polk purchased the home while living in the White House in 1847. Fine. [ Tennessee 1891
