This rock is 11 in. X 8 in. of viscous basalt that has been tooled both length-wise and cross-wise. A latitudinal line is cut deeply to hold a line or rope, while the longitudinal lines are many. It is speculation that this stone was used to hold a net or fish trap in a river to hold steadfast in current. The numerous length-wise lines are thought to be for identification; so that when you returned to your fishing spot you could re-find your anchor stone on the shore-line.
