Very nice little collection. All are drawn on the Bank of California and signed by James G. Fair, a mining millionaire and one of the "Bonanza Kings." 1) Woodworth Mill, RN-E7, issued in 1873 to P. Barnes for $22. Spindle cancel and some soiling. The Woodworth was located on the Carson River one mile above Dayton. It had a 24 stamps, 12 pans, and a 48-ton capacity. 2) Consolidated Mill, RN-D1, issued in 1875 to M. Nelson for $16. Spindle hole. Clean. The Consolidated Mill was located just west of the California Pan Mill in Virginia City. 3) Pacific Mill & Mining Company, RN-D1, issued in 1875 to Breed & Crosby for $12.25. Spindle cancel and one small stain. Group of mills purchased by the Bonanza Kings similar to the Bank Ring’s Union Mill & Mining Co. 4) Bacon Mill, RN-D1, issued in 1874 to W. Shehan for $43.25. Spindle cancel. Clean. Located in lower Silver City. In 1868, it was owned by Sharon & the Bank of California. Mackay & Fair took it over in 1869 to process Hale & Norcross ore. 5) Trench Mill, RN-C21, issued in 1871 to E. Bittner & Co. (Gold Hill merchants) for $161.79. Spindle cancel.
