Circa 1813-1830 British made T Ketland Co.·Fowling flintlock. Ketland arms have been found with various name markings on the guns the T Ketland markings puts the gun in the early part of the 1813-1830 circa because Thomas Ketlands death was in 1816 and the name stamping changed to Ketland Co. with his son taking over the business. The firearm is 55 inches overall with a 39 inch barrel. The proof marks suggest that the gun was made in London and proofed at the Birmingham proof house which started proofing gun barrels in 1813. There is a good possibility that this gun was made for export due to the block lettering company name and one of the proof marks is suspected to mean for trade. If the gun was a trade gun I do not believe it was for the Indian trade business due to the extra embellishments and quality of the work. Precise knowledge of this old flintlock is difficult due to the lack of records from the period and research is still going on today through the study of old records and new finds of these type at guns.

For the age of the gun and comparing it with other examples of these period guns, this firearm seems to be above average conditions and does seem to be all original. State: City: Date:c1820 ID# 48805
