A collection of twenty-four CDVs featuring images of British, French, Russian, and Italian nobility and significant political figures. Some CDVs are portraits of individuals, while others have portraits of multiple members of a family on the same card, and two depict a catalogue of family crests. Royals featured on these cards include Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, Mary Queen of Scots, Empress Eugenie, Napoleon III, Edward Prince of Wales, and Maximilian I of Mexico. Non-royal political figures include Garibaldi, Cromwell, and others. Some images are photographs of original engravings or paintings; these originate from a variety of sources including E.Desmaisons and Dusacq & Co. of France as well as Franz Winterhalter of Germany. Others are real photos of the subjects. The CDVs likely originate from New York, possibly the New York Photographic Company. [
