No. 927. "Foreman[sic.] Shaft, Gold Hill, Nev." No photographer listed. c.1900. 5 x 8" photo on 7.75 x 10.75" mount. Contrast and focus good for two thirds of the photo; washed out on the left. The Forman Shaft was the Joint Shaft of the Overman, Caledonia, Belcher, Seg. Belcher, and Crown Point mining companies in Gold Hill, according to Thompson & West. One of the 1870s wave of shafts sunk to chase the lode at great depth. Started in Nov. 1878. Reached 2,345ft. by 1882. Shutdown in 1882 due to money problems at Belcher and Crown Point. Reopened as a way to drain Gold Hill mines c.1900. Buildings destroyed by fire in 1903. Not listed in Ansari!
