Four California Gold Rush era stock certificates includes a Le Nouveau Monde stock certificate. Issued in Paris in 1850-51 for shares of working gold mines in California. Also included is an Ave Maria Gold Quartz Mine certificate, from Mariposa, Cal., for five shares, signed by committee members and secretary. Not dated or canceled. Clean. Very rare. According to the company's description detailed on the reverse, a London-based association held half the rights to the Ave Maria Gold Quartz Mine in the Mariposa District, California which would be worked under a lease with the owner of the other half. The Ave Maria was mentioned in a letter written from John Duncan to John Fremont on December 26, 1851. Plus one certificate from the Anglo-Californian Gold Mining Company, signed by two directors and a secretary, issued in 1852. Last is a Philadelphia and California Mining Company certificate, No. 1482, 100 shares issued to Bettle Paul in 1852. Signed by the president and secretary. Not canceled. See photo for further details.
