Lot of 4 different including a Jack Davis signed piece. 1) Daisy Wonder Mining Company. No. 1426, issued for 500 shares in 1911. Signed by Jack Davis as vice-president. Not cancelled. Three mining vignettes. Folds. Davis was sentenced to death for killing two sheepmen while working for the cattle ranchers Sparks and Harrell. He would be pardoned at the last minute when Nevada Governor John Sparks appealed to the Governor of Idaho for a stay of execution. After he was released from jail, he found himself in Nevada and soon became associated with George Wingfield. When Wingfield wanted to break a miner's strike, Davis testified - untruthfully - against the union officials that broke the strike. He was also appointed by Wingfield as the sheriff of Goldfield to enforce the anti-union rules Wingfield had imposed! But he was a popular figure. Wherever he went, he drew a crowd. His mining adventures lead him to great riches. The mining boom camp of Diamondfield was named for him. 2) Ruby Wonder Mining Company. No. 796, issued for 1,000 shares in 1908. Punch cancelled. Allegorical vignette. Folds. 3) Ruby Wonder Extension Mining Company. No. 221, issued for 500 shares in 1907. Not cancelled. Pinholes, deep folds, toning. Ornate border and eagle vignette. 4) Re-Organized Alice Mining Company of Wonder. No. 29, issued in 1909 for 100 shares. Not cancelled. Small vignette of palm tress. Folds. The Wonder District was organized in 1906 and is located in Churchill County. The district includes the townsites of Wonder, Victor, Kingston, Red Top, Hercules, and the surrounding mining areas.
