This is the story of triumph and tragedy. Bill Lear designed and sold his Lear Jet for $35,000,000. After selling Lear Jet, they briefly moved to California before finally settling down in the River House on the banks of the Truckee River just outside of Reno, Nevada. It was from this base that Bill would try for another home run. He would stay in the headlines with plans to produce a steam driven bus, an Indy 500 race car, and the all composite Learfan, a twin-turbine driving a single pusher-prop. The credibility he had developed with the Lear Jet program helped fuel the media. All of the projects were destined to fail depleting the $35 million they received from the sale of Lear Jet. Still on Jan 1, 1981, over two years after his death, the Learfan flew for the first time at the Stead Airport in Reno, Nevada (now the home to the National Air Races). It was his wife, Moya that made sure this flight happened. Moya was well-known in Reno as a supporter of the arts and a philanthropist. These four covers memorialize Moya and the First Flight of the Learfan Jet. Date 1981 , NV hwac 20058
