Written by R. A. Nichols. He had arrived on the 17th of October and is writing to his parents on the 18th. This letter is very descriptive of his 1862 trip across the plains in a wagon. He will made $4.00 in his trade starting tomorrow. The stock has been mostly sold already. They sent some provisions back to Auburn at the Powder River Mines. He talks about the portage across the Cascade Mountain. Mentions many of his fellow travelers by first and last name. "Our team had trouble of the indians, but some were massacred." After they left the Platte RIver and took the Lander cutoff they saw graves of those that had been killed by the indians. The content speaks for itself!
