Lot of 30. Includes pictorial Hopi House letter from the Indian Department of the Grand Canyon National Park, 1934, signed by his son Fred Harvey (message about not printing likeness of the park on postcards); c.1920s souvenir postcard folder for the Grand Canyon, 24 views on accordion; 1948 ATSF RR timetable which mentions Fred Harvey dining cars, hotels, and restaurants; and about 27 menus from the Santa Fe Dining Car Service, 1917-18. Fred Harvey (1835-1901) was an English-born entrepreneur who revolutionized hospitality in the American Southwest through his chain of restaurants and hotels. In partnership with the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway, he created the famous "Harvey Houses," which provided consistent, high-quality meals and lodging along railroad routes. In Arizona, Harvey's establishments became cultural hubs in towns such as Winslow, Williams, and the Grand Canyon, bringing refinement and order to frontier travel. His "Harvey Girls," well-trained waitresses recruited from the Midwest and East, became iconic symbols of service and helped civilize the rough railroad towns. The Fred Harvey Company's Arizona operations not only boosted tourism but also played a key role in promoting the Southwest's Native arts, landscapes, and culture to a national audience.
