Mining related autograph check: Fred N. Atwood. Born in Boston 1867, Atwood went to the Klondike (Dawson City) in 1897. He crossed the Chilcoot Trail 35 times to bring his ton of goods. Found he was lousy at mining. He was a trained decorative artist. In 1901 he returned to Dawson with decorative art supplier and with partner George Cantwell, photographer he painted signs, theatre sets, then got into wallpaper. He acted and directed plays in Dawson before moving back to Seattle in 1912. The check drawn on the Bank of British North America is dated July 6, 1905 pays S. P. Dumas $41 wages in full.
