Fresno Interurban Railway incorp. in 1914 to build a 26-mile electric railway from Fresno to Clovis, CA. Construction proceeded slowly eastward from Fresno. While construction of the line to Clovis was underway, an electrified branch line was put in operation between J Street and Fresno State College with two 48-passenger cars leased from the Peninsular Railway. Passenger service to Fresno State College ended when the interurban declared bankruptcy in 1918. Santa Fe purchased the company in 1922.
