Three Friede Globe Tower Co. stock certificates, Arizona, 1904-1906. The Friede Globe Tower, a 700-foot, 11-story structure, was to be built on Coney Island by architect Samuel Friede. Ground breaking ceremonies were held in 1906 and 1907, and many invested. The $1,500,000 tower (part Unisphere, part Eiffel Tower) which would have contained restaurants (one of which would rotate), an observatory, the United States Weather Observation Bureau and Wireless Telegraph Station, a vaudeville theater, the world’s largest ballroom, bowling alley, roller skating rink, casinos, 50,000-room hotel, 5,000-seat hippodrome, and a four large circus ring, never came to be. Two certificates were issued in 1904 to Reinhold Hellmer, No. 2059 for 10 shares and No. 2308 for 10 shares. Both signed by president Samuel M. Friede and treasurer Madden, plus a trust officer. One is issued in 1906 to George Goulburn. No. 1197 for 10 shares. Signed by president Samuel M. Friede and treasurer H.R. Wade. All have a globe tower vignette, two folds and one has two small 1 inch tears along folds.
